We’ll drive you around in our high-ceiling Mercedes Sprinter van. You’ll have large windows and high seats to enjoy the views from any seat. The van has a capacity for 11 passengers but we rarely have that many so you’ll have plenty of space to stretch out.

Our Mercedes Sprinter van can take up to 11 passengers. On our private tours, it will be just you and your family, and on our group birding tours, the maximum number of people is 8 so that everyone has a window seat.

Yes! We have extensive knowledge of activities on Maui, and can recommend and book the best activities for you. Contact us and/or talk to your guide during your tour.

Our only group tour is the Maui Birding Tour and it is limited to 8 passengers.

It often rains in the tropics, particularly in the aptly named “rainforest,” that’s how we get beautiful waterfalls! However, it rarely lasts all day or prevents us from having a wonderful time.

As outlined in the cancellation policy, tours go rain or shine. However, we make reasonable arrangements to reschedule upon request, depending on availability. We take your safety seriously and if weather and road conditions are deemed to be dangerous, we will reschedule or cancel the tour. If Unique Maui Tours needs to cancel a tour due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, your payment will be fully refunded.

As is usual in the tourism industry, gratuity for your guide is optional but customary, and certainly always much appreciated. If your guide has gone the extra mile to show you a great time, by all means, “share the aloha!” Leaving a review is also another way to show your appreciation for your guide.

Yes, we are. We have a Motor Carrier Certificate from the Public Utilities Commission (PUC #4928C), and carry all commercial auto and liability insurance as required by law. This is important for everyone’s safety.

We are one of the only three companies on Maui that are fully permitted to lead hiking tours within Haleakala National Park.

Yes! Children 4 years and older can participate in many of our tours. For children 4-7 years old, we offer a booster seat (as per local legislation). Please check individual tour pages for age restrictions or give us a call.

We recommend that you check the trip details of the tour you have booked, as what to wear can vary whether we’re going to the 10,000-foot summit or in the tropical rainforest, but as a general rule this is what we recommend:

  • Depending on the tour you’ve selected, we may have opportunities to swim, so if you want to get wet, the best is to wear your swimsuit under your clothes, as there are no changing rooms. Wear sporty clothes that you won’t mind getting wet or muddy, and shoes that can get wet (trainers, water shoes, or Keens type). Also bring a change of dry clothes, a light jacket or long sleeve shirt, a pair of flip-flops or sandals, a hat, sunglasses, and a beach towel from your hotel.
  • Bring any medication you might need, such as anti-histamine if you tend to have allergies, Dramamine or Bonine if you suffer from motion sickness—roads tend to be windy around here!
  • It’s also a good idea to bring some spending cash in case you’re tempted by one of the roadside banana bread, ice cream shops, local jewelry, or something else.
  • Gratuity for your guide is optional but always very much appreciated.
  • Last but not least, bring your phone/camera, and your sense of adventure!

That’s it! We take care of pretty much everything else.

On the vehicle, we will have umbrellas, flashlights, reef-safe sunscreen, natural insect repellent, first-aid kit, handy wipes, our “courtesy kit” (toilet paper and feminine products), extra towels, mini backpacks, and a cooler with drinks, water, and snacks.

If that’s the case then steer clear of our hiking tour adventures, but generally, that’s the beauty of a private tour: you get to do what YOU want, go where YOU want, at YOUR own pace! Maui can be enjoyed being as active and adventurous or as mellow and comfortably as you like.

If you have any mobility issues, please let us know in advance, and also talk with your guide during your tour to let them know what you like and how comfortable you feel, so they can tailor the tour to your preferences and abilities.
