Birding with Unique Maui Tours On Nov 23, 2025 I took a guided birding trip with Wendy from Unique Maui Tours. I found the experience to be outstanding. Wendy was knowledgable about the local birds and we had a great day with 7 endemics observed. She knows her community. She is very informative about the Hawaiian language and other cultural issues. I felt like she was an old friend from the first minutes of the tour. The van they use is comfortable, the provided meal was delicious. She tailored the tour to some specific cultural sites I was interested in as well as those noteworthy for birding. Going to the top of Haleakalā Volcano (10,000 feet above sea level) does take time as it is a long way on a winding road but each of the stops showed different terrain and birds and the trek was well worth it. I highly recommend this tour.

Rare Bird watching in Maui We saw many new birds.Harrison, our tour guide , was helpful with locations and knowledgeable of their calls.He was full of information about Maui's ecology.The Lunch was great.We went back to the locations in the following days to maximize the benefits of his knowledge and enjoyment of the birds and locations.

Mesmerizing Koki Beach on the northeast shore of Maui is known for its reddish/pinkish sand, which comes from the gradual weathering and erosion of the red cinder hill called Ka Iwi o Pele, "The Bones of Pele." It can be rough and not always for swimming due to possible dangerous currents. We like to stop by and enjoy it as we experience the Road to Hana, with views of the offshore ‘Alau Island.

We had the best time on our sunset tour with Wendy. She took us around to see a few different sites where we could enjoy the beauty of Maui, learn history and take photos. Our group loved birds so we were pleased to have a second guide who knew a lot about island native birds and helped us to spot them. The sunset was gorgeous and memorable.
