Haleakala Hiking – A Nature Tour
Visitors come from around the world to explore the summit of Haleakala, Maui’s large volcano. The views are breathtaking, the landscape other-worldly, and if you want a break from the heat, it’s the perfect place to go. With your own wildlife biologist as tour guide, hike Haleakala and learn about the biology, geology, history and more!
A moderate 2.2 mile/3.5 km hike (roundtrip) through native shrub land provides an excellent view of the “crater rim”. At the Visitor’s Center we will climb the short Pa Ka Oao (White Hill Trail) for a great view of the Big Island, cinder cones and the erosional valley and we'll hike into the crater on Sliding Sands Trail (about a mile down, then back up). Finally, we drive to to the summit for the 10,023 ft elevation sign and amazing views!
